On December 11, 2023, at 14:00, the inauguration ceremony for the 17th Chief Justice of Korea, The Honorable JO Hee-de, was held in the main hall of the Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Jo began his judgeship at Seoul Criminal District Court in 1986 after graduating from the Seoul National University College of Law and passing the National Judicial Examination in 1981. He was appointed as a Justice in March 2014. He was sworn in as the 17th Chief Justice of Korea on December 11, 2023, after completing his 6-year term as a Justice.

In his inauguration speech, Chief Justice Jo emphasized that ‘he will listen attentively to the voices of the people whenever and wherever possible, and do his utmost to serve for the people truthfully’.
