▣ Today, Chief Justice JO Hee-de appointed Justice CHUN Daeyup as Minister of the National Court Administration. He will replace Justice KIM Sang-hwan, the outgoing Minister of the National Court Administration, as of January 15, 2024.
▣ Appointment Process
● Minister KIM Sang-hwan took office on May 8, 2021, serving for two years and eight months as the Minister of the National Court Administration. He will return to the bench as a Justice of the Supreme Court.
● Justice CHUN Daeyup, the new Minister of National Court Administration, became a judge in 1995 after completing his judicial training (Class 21). He was appointed as a Justice on May 8, 2021, and has experience holding various posts as a judge, a Judicial Research Judge, a Presiding Judge of Busan District Court, a Presiding Judge of Busan High Court, a Standing Commissioner of Sentencing Commission, and Chief Presiding Judge of Seoul High Court.
● Since his judgeship started at the Eastern Branch Court of Seoul District Court in 1995 and until he became a Justice, the newly appointed Minister Chun Daeyup of National Court Administration served as a judge at various levels of courts for 28 years, handling different kinds of cases, conducting researches and dealing with court administration affairs. While serving as a Judicial Research Judge at the Supreme Court in 2004 and 2008 for a total of 6 and a half years, he was able to equip himself with expertise and experience in legal principles and trial practice. During his term as a Standing Commissioner of the Sentencing Commission from 2017 to 2019, he devoted himself to strengthening the independence of expertise of the Sentencing Commission by playing a pivotal role in setting and revising sentencing standards.

He conducts trials and renders decisions based on his extensive legal knowledge, outstanding sense of balance, and excellent expertise in strict sentencing and criminal justice.
