The Korea-Japan Judges’ Workshop reconvened at the Supreme Court from June 30 to July 2, 2025 after being paused since 2018. The 1st Korea-Japan Judges’ Workshop was held in 2005 in accordance with the MOU on Judicial Cooperation signed by the Supreme Court of Korea and the Supreme Court of Japan in 2004. Starting with the first Workshop in Seoul in 2005, the Workshop continued alternately between the two countries for 13 years until 2017, when it came to a halt in 2018. The workshop resumed in 2025 after discussions between the Chief Justices of Korea and Japan during the 19th Conference of Chief Justices of Asia and the Pacific on October 11, 2024. Japanese Delegation Judge Yoshioka Hirotada, Director of the First Division at the General Affairs Bureau, General Secretariat of the Supreme Court of Japan. Judge Takazakura Shinpei, Director for International Affairs in the Secretary Division of the General Secretariat, and Judge Arimoto Sakiko, Staff Attorney for the Civil Affairs Bureau and for the Director of Digital Transformation at the General Secretariat. Korean Delegation was led by Presiding Judge HWANG Insung, Director General for Planning of the National Court Administration. Discussion on topics included expediting court proceedings, advancing digital transformation (including use of AI and other technologies) in the judiciary, and addressing current issues in court administration Main Program - June 30 (Mon.) Meeting with the Minister of National Court Administration and session on Expediting court proceedings (Session 1) - July 1 (Tues.) Visit to the Supreme Court IT Center (Bundang) and the Seoul Central District Court, session on Advancing digital transformation in the judiciary (Session 2) - July 2 (Wed.)
