|---|---|
On June 12, 2024, the Supreme Court held the appointment ceremony where members of the 3rd Judicial Policy Advisory Committee were awarded their letters of appointment. The committee, an advisory body to the Chief Justice, convened for its inaugural meeting. Established under Article 25 of the Court Organization Act, the Judicial Policy Advisory Committee has previously operated during two separate terms: the first from 2009 to 2010 and the second from 2013 to 2014. The Chief Justice appointed seven members from among those of high learning and reputation on judicial policies across the legal, media, academic, and women’s sectors, including Mr. KWON O-Gon, the former President of the Assembly of States Parties (ASP) of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Mr. KWON O-Gon has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Judicial Policy Advisory Committee. The Chief Justice has designated the committee’s term of operation until June 11, 2025 (extended up to 6 months, if necessary). The inauguration of the 3rd Judicial Policy Advisory Committee is expected to provide helpful guidance on addressing the critical issues faced by the judiciary, including restoring public trust and resolving delays in court proceedings. |
