¢Ã Marking the 10th year of enforcement of Act on Registration of Family Relations, the Supreme Court which handles affairs of family relations registration and the Korean Society of Family Law which systematically conducts researches on the family law and its theory co-hosted a symposium on April 2, 2018.

¢Ã Since the Constitutional Court’s decision of ‘Unconformable to Constitution’ on the Family Headship System, it is necessary to review the achievements of the Family Relations Registration System launched to flesh out the constitutional ideology of individual’s dignity and gender equality, and to make continuous efforts to gain public trust in the Family Relations Registration System.

¢Ã The symposium was held under the theme of ‘Achievements and tasks of the Family Relations Registration System, marking the 10th year of its implementation’ to seek a direction toward which the Family Relations Registration System should move through a high quality discussion on the tasks ahead and further advancement of the system.

¢Ã Each session of the symposium included: i) Achievements of the 10-year long implementation of the Family Relations Registration System and ways for improvement; ii) Function of disclosing the family relation register; iii) Trends in precedents on cases related to Act on Registration of Family Relations after the abolishment of the Family Headship System; iv) Presentation and discussion on the theme of ‘Integration of the Family Relations Registration System with the Resident and Identity Registration System of North Korea in preparation for the reunification’

¢Ã Along with the symposium, a temporary exhibition on the theme of ‘Past and Present of the Citizen Registration System of the Republic of Korea’ was held from March 26 to April 6, 2018 on the 4th floor of the Supreme Court so that a foundation for systematic research and development of the family relations registration system can be established by reflecting on the time-honored history of the Citizen Registration System of Korea.
